Panama City > Las Tablas > Tonosi > Guanico abajo
ATTENTION: There is also a GUANICO ARRIBA, please don't confuse!
From Panama Tocumen Airport to Panama City Center, it's about 30 minutes by taxi. ($30) In Panama City, take the bus to Las Tablas at the Albrook Bus Terminal (duration: 4.5h/$9.90).
The bus takes a break halfway. There is no toilet on the bus and the temperatures are often quite cold, as they are actually always equipped with air conditioning.
In Las Tablas, you then have to change the bus terminal. Since it would be much too far on foot, it is best to get a taxi. There is a bus from Las Tablas to Tonosi every hour (duration 1h/ $3.50).
There is even a direct bus from Las Tablas to Playa Guanico abajo once a day (13:00). If you miss the last bus at 4:00 p.m., you'll have to take a taxi (costs around $60 directly to Guanico Abajo).
In Tonosi, the bus only goes twice a day to Guanico abajo, in the morning at 10:00 and in the afternoon at 14:00 (duration 30 min./ $1.50) If you want to travel by taxi from Tonosi to Guanico, you pay $12.
With your thoroughly checked and ready to use rental vehicle, optimally equipped with GPS or Google Maps, you first leave Panama City via the “Puente de las Américas” bridge.Once you have left the bridge, drive towards Divisa for approximately 3 hours. Before arriving in Divisa, there is a road sign that marks the direction to Pedasi. This is the road that you must follow. At this point, you leave the Pan-Americana Highway. The turnoff is on the right and takes you across a small bridge. Drive towards Chitre and then to Las Tablas. Drive straight down the main road until you reach a traffic light after a roundabout. At the light signal, continue towards Tonost.
You reach an intersection with a green house, which has a large electronic billboard. There, turn left and immediately afterwards, in front of Bank Banistmo, turn right again into a side street. They follow the course of the road until they reach the point where the road ends. Then turn left onto the road. About 100 meters further on, turn right in front of a yellow building. You are now on the road to Valle Rico. This beautifully paved mountain road takes you over the mountains for a good hour. Once in the valley, turn left at the large cantina (typical Panamanian bar). Drive straight ahead for about 5 minutes until you reach the next intersection. Now turn right. About 5 minutes later, you will reach the town of Tonosi. At the entrance to Tonosi, there is a gas station on the right, which is also the last refueling point to Guanico. Banco National is also on the left (last chance to withdraw money). At Banco National, turn right and follow the road. At the big intersection, keep left. On the left side, you can now see a blue sign that marks the surrounding villages, including Playa Guanico. It is a 30-minute drive from Tonosi to Guanico. While driving, you will pass the sign that signals the direction to Bucaro. At this point, simply continue straight ahead. A good 10 minutes later, a large supermarket appears on the right side. At this intersection, turn left and follow the road until you reach the sea by car. There, turn left and drive about 200 meters until the road ends. This is where our little paradise appears. Please respect the speed limits as police on motorbikes, with radar guns, carry out speed checks along motorways.
